Technology spend goes wrong in two ways: buying too little and patching it forever, or building too much before you know what you need. A few honest questions keep you out of both.
Start with the problem
Write the problem in one sentence, without naming a technology. For example: “Customers cannot find our services or contact us easily,” or “We track worker attendance on paper and lose records.” The first needs a website. The second needs a system.
When a website is enough
If people mainly need to learn who you are, see what you offer and get in touch, a clear business website does the job. It should load quickly, work on a phone and make contacting you one tap away.
When a ready-made tool is enough
For common needs such as accounting, email, or basic attendance, an off-the-shelf product is usually cheaper and quicker. Try one before you commit to building.
When custom software makes sense
- Your process is unusual and the tools you tried force awkward workarounds
- You need several systems to share data without re-typing it
- The software is part of what you sell to customers
- Your team spends hours every week on manual steps that a system could do
Do not forget the running costs
Software needs hosting, fixes and updates after launch. Ask what ongoing support looks like before you sign, and who you call when something breaks.
Talk it through
SIARA builds websites, applications and custom software, and supports them afterwards. Describe the problem and we will tell you honestly whether you need to build anything at all.
